In response to requests from residents, the St. Lucie Transportation Planning Organization (St. Lucie TPO) is re-examining the addition of bicycle lanes to the SR-A1A South Causeway Bridge in Fort Pierce. The conceptual plan reduces the number of travel lanes on the bridge from four to two, increases the widths of the two inside travel lanes to 12 feet, and restripes the two outside travel lanes for 8.5-foot wide buffered bicycle lanes that also will be designated for emergency vehicles, emergency evacuations, and disabled vehicles.
Public input on the conceptual plan can be provided through the following:
· An online survey at www.stlucietpo.org available beginning Wednesday, March 27.
· A public workshop on Thursday, April 4, between 6:00 and 8:00pm at the Fort Pierce City Hall located at 100 North U.S. Highway 1.
The conceptual plan and a summary of public input will be presented at the Fort Pierce City Commission Meeting on Monday, April 15 at 6:30pm. Upon completion of the public input activities, the proposed project may be considered for endorsement by the St. Lucie TPO at its meeting on Wednesday, June 5th at 2:00pm at the St. Lucie TPO located at 466 SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard, Suite 111 in Port St. Lucie.
