[ARCHIVED] St. Lucie Public Schools - Graduation Rates Soar to 5th in the State

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) is ranked fifth overall in Florida and is the highest ranking district on the Treasure Coast with an overall graduation rate of 90.1 percent. Data released today by the Florida Department of Education shows that for the third year in a row, the District continues to demonstrate positive growth.  “This is a historic and unprecedented measure of success for the School District and for the community,” said Superintendent E. Wayne Gent.  This surge represents a hike from 45th to fifth in the state as well as another 3.3 percent gain from the previous year, surpassing state averages.

According to a report released today by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), all SLPS comprehensive high schools made significant gains and four high schools boast graduation rates that exceed 93 percent (Lincoln Park Academy, 99.6; Treasure Coast High School, 97.3; Fort Pierce Central High School, 95.5; and St. Lucie West Centennial High School, 93.2).  Fort Pierce Westwood High School and Port St. Lucie High School far exceeded the State graduation average and improved their graduation rates by 6.7 and 8.4 percent respectively.  Superintendent E. Wayne Gent said, “It is important to ensure that all of our students are making gains, and it is gratifying to see all demographic groups making positive growth and opening doors for college or career opportunities.”  SLPS ranks third in the state for ESE students with an 83.7 percent rate, third for Black students with 88.1 percent, sixth for White students with 91.5 percent, and seventh in the state for Hispanic students with graduation rates at 89.6 percent.

Supporting all students in their achievement of graduation goals is the mission of St. Lucie Public Schools.  “We have a dedicated team of teachers and administrators in place who are relentless in their efforts to support the personal learning goals for students.  Persistent efforts to monitor indicators of momentum including attendance, behavior, math, and reading gains are contributing factors to our overall gains,” said Gent.
