Fort Pierce City Hall will be closing at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, October 5th and will remain closed Thursday and Friday because of expected storm conditions from Hurricane Matthew. The track of Hurricane Matthew is still uncertain; however, the City of Fort Pierce is urging all residents to check their hurricane supplies and make necessary plans for the impact of the storm. The City of Fort Pierce is expected to experience severe weather including heavy rain, potential flooding, and tropical storm to hurricane force winds.
The Fort Pierce City Marina is currently closed and will remain closed until the storm passes. Fort Pierce City Marina is encouraging its boaters to evacuate the marina and take whatever means possible to ensure safety. The marina will continue to provide gas and ice as storm prepping under goes; however, will not be accepting new customers into the marina at this time.
Residents living in low-lying areas and on the barrier island are encouraged to consider implementing their evacuation plans. If residents do evacuate, they should remember to let their out-of-town friends and family know what their hurricane plans are. Those residents planning to shelter in place should make sure they have enough food, water and medicine to last them at least three days.
The City of Fort Pierce is asking all residents to refrain from putting any yard debris such as tree trimmings, construction material, or excess trash by the curb until the storm threat passes.
