The City of Fort Pierce joins municipalities across Florida in celebrating Florida City Government Week, a statewide initiative that highlights the vital role local government plays in the lives of residents. Sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, this annual observance underscores the importance of civic engagement and the everyday services that keep communities thriving.
As the level of government closest to the people, municipalities like Fort Pierce are responsible for delivering essential services—from public safety and infrastructure to parks, recreation, and community development. Florida City Government Week offers an opportunity to educate residents about how their city functions and why their participation matters.
“Florida City Government Week allows us to showcase the many ways our city serves the community,” said Mayor Linda Hudson “We’re excited to connect with students, all residents, and senior citizens through engaging activities that promote awareness, involvement, and pride in Fort Pierce.”
Throughout the week, the City of Fort Pierce will host a variety of events designed to inform, engage and inspire. Highlights include:
- City Commission Proclamation – October 20, 2025 at 5:05 PM Kick off the week with an official proclamation from the Fort Pierce City Commission during their regular meeting. Join us as we celebrate civic pride and community engagement!
- “Where’s the Mayor or Commissioner?” – October 20–26, 2025 (Facebook Only) Inspired by the classic Where’s Waldo?, this daily photo challenge invites residents to spot city leaders in various Fort Pierce locations. Follow along on the City’s Facebook page—first correct answer each day wins a Fort Pierce SWAG bag! Limit one win per participant for the duration of the contest.
- Youth Essay Contest – October 20–November 10, 2025 Hosted by the Youth Advisory Council, the “If I Were Elected Mayor of the City of Fort Pierce…” essay contest encourages middle and high school students to share their ideas for shaping the future of our city. - Ghost Walk of Historic Fort Pierce – October 22, 23 & 25 Step back in time with the Ghosts of Fort Pierce Past Walking Tours. These one-hour guided walks reveal the city’s fascinating history—from its 1880s military roots to its WWII contributions—through stories of notable figures and landmarks.
Residents are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and learn more about how local government works for them every day.
