[ARCHIVED] Fort Pierce Adopts Citywide Transportation Safety Plan

Community Safety Action Plan

The Fort Pierce City Commission officially adopted the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP)—an initiative aimed at reducing transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries across the city.
The CSAP represents a major milestone in Fort Pierce’s commitment to creating safer streets for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and transit riders. Developed through months of public engagement, data analysis, and strategic planning, the plan outlines policies, programs, and projects to address traffic safety challenges and improve mobility throughout the community.
“Safety is a shared responsibility, and this plan reflects the voices and concerns of our residents,” said City Manager Richard Chess. “With the CSAP in place, Fort Pierce is better positioned to secure federal funding and implement meaningful improvements that will save lives.”
Key highlights of the CSAP include:
  • Identification of high-crash corridors and intersections
  • Strategies to enhance pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure
  • Recommendations for traffic calming and speed management
  • Expanded public education and enforcement initiatives
The City received a federal grant to support the development of the CSAP and will continue to pursue additional funding to implement its recommendations. Public input played a vital role throughout the planning process, with community meetings, surveys, and open houses helping shape the final plan.

Residents are encouraged to stay engaged as the City begins rolling out safety projects in the coming months. To view the full Comprehensive Safety Action Plan and learn more about upcoming initiatives, visit Engineering | Fort Pierce, FL - Official Website.
