[ARCHIVED] Updated Schedule for Memorial Plaque Removal at Jetty Linear Park and Jetty Fishing Pier

Jetty Park Plaque Removal

The City of Fort Pierce has rescheduled the removal of all unauthorized memorial plaques and flowers placed on the rocks at Jetty Linear Park and the Jetty Fishing Pier. The new start date is the week of July 28, 2025, and the process is expected to take approximately one week.

These items, while placed with heartfelt intent, were not formally approved and are in violation of the City’s lease agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who maintain jurisdiction over these areas. Additionally, flowers, plastics, adhesives and other items pose an environmental hazard as they may wash into the ocean and impact marine life. The city understands the sensitive nature of this effort. While every attempt will be made to remove plaques with care, some may break due to the materials and adhesives used.

Retrieval of Intact Plaques:

Intact plaques will be safely stored and made available for pickup at the City’s Public Works Facility, located at 52 Savannah Rd, Fort Pierce, FL 34982. A list of retrieved plaques will be published for identification purposes.

NEW Pickup Times:

    Monday, August 4, 2025 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

    Tuesday, August 5, 2025 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Pickups will take place in front of the Streets and Drainage Facility.

If these times are not convenient, please contact the Public Works Front Office at 772-467-3794 during regular business hours to schedule an appointment.

Note: For safety reasons, members of the public will not be permitted to enter the fenced work area. Plaques will be available for pickup through Friday, August 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM.

Important Reminders During Removals:

Please do not approach or interrupt staff during the removal process.

Designated work areas will be restricted for safety.

We encourage visitors to enjoy other unrestricted areas of the park during this time.

An alternative memorial option is currently in development and will be announced in the near future.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain the integrity of our public spaces and meet our environmental and regulatory obligations.

For additional information, please contact: Public Works Department at 772-467-3794
