The City of Fort Pierce is monitoring Storm AL97 now Tropical Depression Four and is preparing for any potential impact it may have on the city. As of now, Tropical Depression Four is a well-defined storm near Cuba and is forecast to emerge into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico where it is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm by Saturday night as it begins to move northward off the southwest Florida coast. It will continue to move north to north-northeastward during the day on Sunday and approach the northern Florida peninsula. Currently, there are no watches or warnings for our area.

Potential Impacts for the City of Fort Pierce

  • Heavy rainfall of 2-4” starting Saturday through Monday. (This increases the risk of potential localized flooding).
  • Tropical storm force wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph and the potential for a tornado with the outer rainbands of the system (particularly Sunday throughout the day).

Sand Distribution

The City of Fort Pierce is offering free self-serve sandbag stations for residents at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dreamland Park (S. 25th St.), Pioneer Park (Ave M and N. 29th St.), Little Jim Bait & Tackle (601 N. Causeway), and Jaycee Park (South Hutchinson Island). Residents should bring their own bags and a shovel. Parks are open daily from dawn to dusk.

Solid Waste Collection

The Solid Waste Division is running on its normal schedule. The city is asking residents to please refrain from cutting down vegetation or doing major projects until the system passes. Residents should not place any additional debris at the curb as it may block surface stormwater flow.

Streets and Drainage

The Streets and Drainage Division is working hard to ensure the stormwater systems are free of obstructions and are operating at full capacity.
