City of Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency Wins 2023 Roy F. Kenzie Award for Downtown Master Plan

FRA Award - Downtown Master Plan - Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency

The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Roy F. Kenzie Award for Planning Studies by the Florida Redevelopment Association (FRA). This recognition is in acknowledgment of the outstanding Downtown Master Plan, which charts the path for revitalization and enhancement of Fort Pierce's downtown area.

The FRA Annual Conference and Awards Reception, an event celebrating the remarkable achievements of city and county organizations throughout Florida's redevelopment and community enhancement sectors, served as the venue for this outstanding accolade. As a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Florida professionals and volunteers engaged in community revitalization initiatives, the FRA's Roy F. Kenzie Awards commend excellence across various categories, including planning studies, cultural enrichment, housing, and more.

Fort Pierce's Downtown Master Plan represents a transformative moment for the city. After years of visioning sessions and discussions, the area has attracted significant capital investment that will shape the city's future. With a strategic vision spanning three phases over the next 20 years, the plan focuses on maintaining a vibrant waterfront accessible to all, ensuring consistent activity, balancing parking with city character, connecting cultural assets, and elevating expectations.

The Downtown Master Plan's success can be attributed to its community-driven approach and strategic evaluation of existing assets. The plan actively engaged the community through interactive events and an online platform, fostering a sense of excitement and creating a shared vision for the future. The involvement of various community groups and homeowner associations has ignited a renewed interest in Downtown Fort Pierce, reinforcing a commitment to its growth and vibrancy.

The Roy F. Kenzie Award places the FPRA in the esteemed company of other organizations and projects that have excelled in community redevelopment. This year's honorees include notable projects from the Delay Beach CRA, City of Groveland, Pompano Beach CRA, St. Could GRA, Boynton Beach CRA, City of Deerfield Beach, Hoy Architects, City of Ocala, City of Palmetto CRA, and Inspire Placemaking Collective.

Community Redevelopment Agencies (CRAs) and development organizations play a vital role as catalysts for urban enhancement and growth. These organizations focus on stimulating economic development, fostering community engagement, and contributing to the overall prosperity of cities and urban areas.

All submissions for the FRA Awards undergo a rigorous assessment process based on factors such as effectiveness, completeness, narrative quality, creativity, supplemental materials, and adherence to submission guidelines.
