BUILDING

The Building Development Department's main objectives are to protect the public's safety, health, and general welfare through structural strength, stability,  sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, and the safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment including alteration, repair, removal, demolition, use and occupancy of buildings, structures, or premises. The Division operates as a team to provide a high quality of service to the public.  We are dedicated to providing qualified plan review, field inspections, convenient and easily accessible information and services.

Construction without a Permit

This is clarification of an existing policy enforced by the City of Fort Pierce Building Development Department. There is no provision in the Florida Building Code regarding the inspection of a completed structure when someone is cited for construction without a permit, a double permit fee will be imposed. If a stop work order was issued, there is a $100.00 fee imposed as well.

Certified design drawings will need to accompany the permit application and a Certification of Completion must be attached which must be sealed by a Florida Registered architect or engineer. The Building Department will review the permit after the certification is received.

If you are unable to obtain a Certificate of Completion, the structure may need to be dismantled so that the proper inspections can be performed.

The Building Department staff is made up of state licensed and certified building officials, plan examiners, inspectors and permit specialists.
