ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES The Administrative Services Department responsibilities include administering and monitoring the Human Resources Department operations, executing major departmental policies and procedures and planning long and short term programs.
Administrative Services' goal is to improve the skills of our workforce by providing training programs, workshops and to maintain an effective flow of information to employees and the citizenry.
HUMAN RESOURCES The Human Resources Department provides planning, implementation and maintenance of an ongoing human resources program that included recruitment, examination and selection of personnel, union negotiations, and personnel policies and procedures. Additional services provided by this department include conducting surveys and studies of fringe benefits, representing the City in human resources matters, and providing administrative services to the Civil Service Appeals Board
Human Resources' goal is to administer and monitor the operations of the department, design and implement incentive programs for the employees and to recruit the most qualified personnel.
APPLICATION/HIRING PROCESS Applications for current vacancies are accepted during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If closing date is specified on the vacancy, applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on that closing date. A separate application must be submitted for each position applied for. Applications received are screened for qualifications and forwarded to the hiring department for review and consideration. Applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted by telephone; applicants who are not will be notified by mail.
If offered a position with the city, the prospective employee will receive a preliminary telephone call and undergo a series of hiring steps as follows:
- Letter of intent (Entering second phase contingent upon successful completion of background and drug screening)
- Background search and drug screening
- Telephone call concerning final offer
- Confirmation letter
The Police Department requires additional testing for hire as stated in the position descriptions.
The City's hiring process may take from three weeks to over one month. Open continuous positions may take several months.
All new hires are subject to a six-month probationary period, after which time they will qualify for benefits (with the exception of health, which is available on the 1st of the month following the employee's 90th day of employment). Dental coverage will be available after 30 days of employment.
