The Planning Department's main objective is to protect, improve and promote the quality of the City of Fort Pierce by comprehensive planning, which responds to the changing needs and values of the community, both in the natural and built environments, and creates opportunities to realize the community's desired vision of the future.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

The City of Ft. Pierce has been involved in Historic Preservation since 2001 when the City developed a progressive historic preservation program. This includes the adoption of a Historic Preservation Ordinance, participation in the Florida Certified Local Government Program, the designation of six historic districts, and a Tax Exemption Program.

In all successful and beautiful cities, the future is rooted in the past.  In its second century, Ft. Pierce is taking advantage of its architectural history and design tradition as its citizens find new ways to retain the best qualities of the past on the way to a better future
