Applications for current vacancies are accepted during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If closing date is specified on the vacancy, applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on that closing date. A separate application must be submitted for each position applied for. Applications must contain the job title of the positions for which you are applying, and all other required information.

Applications received are screened for qualifications and forwarded to the hiring department for review and consideration. Applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted by telephone; applicants who are not will be notified by mail. The city's hiring process may take from 3 weeks to over 1 month. Open continuous positions may take several months.
If offered a position with the city, the prospective employee will receive a preliminary telephone call and undergo a series of hiring steps as follows:
Letter of intent (Entering second phase contingent upon successful completion of background and drug screening)
Background search and drug screening
Telephone call concerning final offer
All new hires are subject to a 6-month probationary period, after which time they will qualify for benefits (with the exception of health, which is available on the 1st of the month following the employee's 90th day of employment). Dental coverage will be available after 30 days of employment.
Police Department Application Process
The Police Department requires additional testing for hire as stated in the position descriptions.
